There are many reasons why you might want to turn your old jeans into a skirt, such as doing good for the world by recycling old clothes, deriving satisfaction from making a sustainable choice, and saving money. But what about the benefit of getting a good-looking skirt? Of all the skirts I have, jean skirts are the best, especially when made into a long skirt.
Most of the seams are already done for you, so there’s no need to struggle with sewing the waistband or getting the side curve right… the reasons can go on. And you know all about jeans – the good, the bad, and the ugly. Everything is translated into this skirt, especially the good. The sturdiness, the elegance.
I have already covered how to make skirts with jeans and fabric added to it : How to make a skirt out of Jeans and fabrics. This skirt is just the jeans, nothing else. It is slightly different in that there is no extra fabric added here.
A long skirt is a versatile piece of clothing that can be used anywhere – even to office with a white shirt, for a casual outing with a t-shirt. So may be you want to try it out.
Here is how to make it
What do you need to make a long jeans-skirt
1. A jeans that fits perfectly on the waist and is slightly loose on the hips . If it is not perfectlt fitting, no issues, you can adjust the waistband as you alter it. If the jeans is loose at the waistband it may involve adjusting the waistband and reconfiguring seams to create a new shape.
If you have only tight jeans for this DIY, you may have to make a jeans skirt with the slit a little higher up – you have to walk! If you have a comparatively looser jeans, you will need to make the slit only from the knee. If you have a flared jeans you may not even have to make a slit.
2. Seam ripper
3. Sturdy jeans thread
