Tent Dress, Trapeze dress, Umbrella dress: are all these flared dresses the same?

TRAPEZE DRESS

In a Trapeze dress, the flare is more controlled than in the other two dresses. Compared to tents and umbrellas, the flare is less, less fabric is needed – the most pronounced feature of a trapeze dress is its wide A-line shape. It creates an A-line silhouette that’s wider at the hem but doesn’t have as much volume as the tent dress or the Umbrella.

TENT DRESS

A tent dress has a good amount of flare – after all, it looks like a tent. It has less flare than the Umbrella but more than the Trapeze dress.

UMBRELLA DRESS

If you have seen an open umbrella, that is how an umbrella dress would look in all its glory. The flare can start from the bust, or the waist. It goes out in all directions, just like an open umbrella would.

You need a lot of fabric to make a very long umbrella dress. The fabric width will have to match the length or else you will have to add extra fabric.
