That was amazing and very thorough. I felt once again like I was sitting at my mother’s knee learning to sew. She’s the one who taught me how to darn socks with a wooden darning egg. That was a Long Long time ago.

What about a right corner tear? I tend to catch the cuffs on corners of sheet metal at work, and creates a right angle tear.

I loved all your tips,but mine is a little different. I received a few pair of jeans that are brand new,however,her cat clawed the jeans on one side of all the jeans. There are holes from the claws and I don’t want to throw them away because otherwise they are fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I purchased a pair of jeans with tons of Holes from my favorite Company because they had POCKETS + BELT LOOPS (rare these days). Hoped my mother could fix the Crazy amount of Holes present in the knees, legs, & pocket areas… Even my toes got caught in holes. They are Wine Colour Cordoroy. She got strong matching Cotton material & backed the holes, matching thread & did it ALL by hand. Took her a Week in her spare time. Labor of Love. She hated to hand-sew.

My denims all have vertical tears, most likely because I wear the same jeans whether I’m fat or thin LOL. I am down to my last two wearable jeans so today I looked through my pile of jeans to be mended and discovered I have eight pairs! Thank you so much for your clear instructions I will be using them to sort my jeans out.

The tough area to patch is a larger hole in the thigh or knee. it wants a good strong machine patch, but that’s tough if the patch needs to be large. You can rip out the side seam and patch but then you’re faced with renewing the double seam. Not an easy task. Sometimes saving the jeans for patches is the better choice.
